As we plan for the year ahead, we’re offering greater flexibility in how you work with LarCare in 2026. Team members may now be able to choose whether they work as a W-2 employee or a 1099 independent contractor, depending on their role and availability.
Here’s a quick comparison:
| Scenario | Larry (Independent Contractor – 1099) | Mary (Employee – W-2) |
| Weekly Gross Pay | $1,500/week flat. No taxes taken out. | $1,500/week, taxes automatically withheld. |
| Taxes | Responsible for paying his own taxes (est. 20–25%). | Taxes withheld (approx. 18–20%) by LarCare. |
| Deductions | Larry writes off expenses like: • Mileage | Mary doesn’t file deductions for work-related costs — those are handled by LarCare. |
| Estimated Net Bi-Weekly Pay | ~$1,300 bi-weekly after estimated taxes and deductions. | ~$1,150 bi-weekly after payroll taxes withheld. |
| Estimated Annual Net Income | ~$33,800/year (if managing deductions + quarterly taxes well). | ~$29,900/year (after standard payroll deductions). |
| Flexibility | Sets his own schedule; can work for multiple clients. | Follows LarCare schedule; steady hours and assignments. |
| Record-Keeping | Must track receipts, mileage, and expenses for tax filing. | No tracking needed; taxes and payroll are handled for you. |
| Tax Forms | Receives a 1099-NEC at year-end and files independently. | Receives a W-2 at year-end with everything summarized. |
| Insurance & Benefits | Can opt into healthcare access independently via LarCare’s new benefit (optional) | May receive employer-backed options if offered for employees |
| Pros | • More control over schedule and clients • Potential tax savings via deductions • Higher gross pay | • Simpler taxes and less paperwork • More predictable pay • Payroll handled for you |
| Cons | • Must plan for and pay quarterly taxes • More paperwork and self-filing • Requires self-discipline | • Lower net pay due to withholding • Less flexibility • Fewer tax-saving opportunities |
We’re setting up systems to support both options. Please complete the form at the end to confirm your choice.
